About Us

Harry Thompson Funeral Services was first established in 1991 by Harry himself with the support of his wife Margaret and their eldest son Mark. Their youngest son Richard joined them later.

The first office opened in Hinderwell but only a few months later the business moved to High St in Loftus not far from where the premises are today.

After two years Harry purchased the old Trillo’s café and conversion of the premises into a funeral home went under way.  With, office and Mortuary facilities, a comfortable sitting room for families to visit and make their arrangements, along with two chapels of rest for visiting their loved ones. 1-2 High Street has cared for families for 30 years serving the community in their time of need.

Twelve years ago, saw the opening of our Saltburn Office, designed on the same principal as our Loftus office to accommodate all our families allowing them to feel as comfortable as possible when visiting.  It is also here that we run Saltburn Memorials for those families who wish to arrange a memorial for their loved ones, from memorial keepsakes, jewellery, brass wall plaques to headstones to mark their loved one’s grave.

In 2021 Harry along with the support of his family purchased the Mars Inn Public House on Deepdale Road in Loftus to expand the business further.

In November 2022 we made the moved from 1-2 High Street to our new premises called Marson House, which officially was opened on 18th November 2022 by Neil Anderson Chairman of Staithes and Runswick RNLI and blessed by Fr Adam Gaunt Rector of Loftus and Carlin How.

The name Marson House came from using Harry’s Middle name which in turn was his mother’s maiden name, Marson and just so happens to incorporate the Mars Inn.  Some people would say it was meant to be.

Continuing to serve our community and beyond we kept the premises to a neutral but calming theme with the front of our premises grassed with future ideas of creating a tranquil memorial garden where families can come sit and be close by their loved ones.

Due to the sad closure of many of our Methodist Churches and to give families a very personal option and opportunity we have our very own Service Chapel seating 60 people but can accommodate over 100 mourners if needed.  Again, keeping the room to a neutral and calm tranquil feeling families are able to have a complete funeral service here including their own personal choice of music, photographs and visual slide show tribute all organised by us and our dedicated team who share the same highest of values and understandings that Harry and his family have built over the past 33 years.

January 2024 we were proud to receive our first brand new fleet of a Mercedes Hearse and Limousine in the bespoke colour Caviar (burgundy) reflecting our individuality and independence to other funeral homes.

We will continue to serve our community and beyond and strive for perfection with each and every family that come into our care.
